Jump Rope for Heart

IMG_6283

Enoch is participating in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser at his school. This isn’t just any fundraiser to us. Enoch has a heart condition. This is something very close to us. We also have family members on both sides that have been dealt heart diseases.

Enoch has been jumping rope at school during PE and learning all about his amazing heart. He truly enjoys doing this every week.

If you would like to help Enoch reach his goal and support the cause, please click on the big heart below.

Thank you!

a little late but Happy New Year! Ha!

We took some last minute family photos on New Year’s Day. It was a Sunday so we had to wait until Joe got home from all his church business to do this. You can imagine how happy the boys were to have to stay in their Sunday Best and look presentable until he got home. The color is WAY off and we’re a little goofy but oh well, enjoy!

time for an update

My boys are growing up way too fast. I’m so ready for another baby because my kids are nowhere near babies anymore!

We bought Travis a large Spiderman coloring book the other day and the boys did some coloring. They were so proud of their masterpieces that they begged me to take a picture of them.

I’ve been writing down some of the funny things the boys have been saying lately. Travis is seriously talking like crazy and he repeats everything Enoch says and that drives Enoch nuts of course. The conversations are just so fun…

I told Travis today that we would Potty train him on his birthday and he said, “Mom, I’m not a train.”

I kissed Travis and his lips were kind of slobbery so I told him, “Ew, your lips are slobbery”. And he said, “No mom, it's not slobber, it's French fries.”

Joe was cuddling with a sleeping Enoch, and Enoch was holding Joe's hand, Enoch just woke up, and before he said anything, he grabbed Joe's pinky, and said "Ska-doosh". Then Enoch said, "I just remembered that Dad."

Travis is in bed with us and Joe says, "Hey, I'm going to make you banana pancakes for breakfast." Travis responds, "No banana pancakes Dad, hotdogs!"

I was telling Joe that I was ordering an amazon gift card for my dad and Enoch looked perplexed and then asked, "we're getting grandpa a gift from the amazon jungle?!"

I told Enoch he would get to try a buffalo burger for Grandpa's birthday and he looked worried instead of excited so I asked what was wrong and he said, "But Mom, isn’t it spicy? Like the buffalo wings?"

Travis likes to play with my phone because I have movies, tv shows via Netflix and all sorts of games on there for him. The other day he was sitting on my bed, playing with my phone and the phone rang so I asked, “Oh, is that your Daddy calling?”

Travis repsonds, “Yes, I turned it off.”

Aren’t they fun? ??

debt

Well, I feel pretty good and light right now. I just closed five, that's right 5, credit cards because they had no balance. That, for us, is amazing.

I know, I've heard that closing accounts can damage your credit just as much as not paying your bill on time but they were in my name and not in Joe's. My credit has always been in the pits because I'm terrible with cards. FREE MONEY!! Haha. They really aren't but when you have that shiny card in your hand and whatever item your staring at in the store instantly becomes attainable, it's just so hard to say, NO! Stick that card back in the secret pocket of your wallet and walk away. I have never been blessed with that little voice when it comes to spending money.

You sort of get this little high when you spend money on a credit card. You have all these new things and they're all so shiny and pretty - or noisy and transform-able if I'm buying things for the boys - but sadly, that high disappears shortly after you get home and you realize you're going to have to pay for these items in the next few weeks with interest. It's almost heart breaking. I have no idea why I continued to do this to myself and our bank account over, and over, and over. It's kind of like an addiction. Once you start its oh as hard to stop.

Why am I posting this you might wonder? Maybe for some accountability. Maybe for a reality check? Maybe to know I'm not the only one with a spending problem... I don't know. Maybe I just want to get it out so I can learn and move on.

Those cards are closed now and pose no more temptation. I hope to move on, grow up, learn from mistakes and experiences so I can enjoy life more instead of dreading paying those bills each week.

We now have one credit card to each of our names, Joe's has a much larger limit and is an active card. Mine is in the 3 digit range and the card is currently locked so I can't use it, hahaha. It feels good to eliminate debt. Really good. Almost better than spending money! Almost...
We're down to a few medical bills now, bills that we can pay off in a few months and we have affordable health insurance that will actually pay for medical bills now. Things are really looking up and I'm so excited for what the future holds.

For now, I will say goodbye to my Children's Place card, Kohl's, Discover, Chase, and Dressbarn. You will be missed but you're interest rate won't!
