Enoch's Check Up with his Surgeon

Today we made a trip to Children's Hospital for Enoch's check up with his surgeon. We were a year over due because we didn't realize we were supposed to see him last year. Dr. Karrer is awesome. We just love the guy. And you really don't begin to understand why Pediatric Doctors are in Pediatrics until your kids are old enough for them to interact with. Before Enoch was just a baby so the Dr mostly interacted with Joe and I. Its a totally different ball game now. Dr. Karrer is an AMAZING Doctor with kids! He made Enoch feel totally comfortable and at ease, especially when Dr. Karrer had to examine Enoch's little bumhole.

The check up went as well as one could hope when their kid has this type of issue. Dr. Karrer was positive and said Enoch had really good muscle strength and sphincter control. He was kind of suprised too. Even said it was the right size. He said sometimes kids either have too small of an opening or too large, Enoch was just right. I personally never thought I would ever feel so happy to hear that my son's bumhole was the right size. You just never think of this stuff when you start having children. Dr. Karrer is a very dry, funny man. Joe and I enjoy him thoroughly. The man is just...well, funny. I'm not even sure if he means to be but he just says the darndest things.

When Enoch had his third and finaly surgery, closing his stoma, he was also circumsized. When Dr. Karrer came out of the OR to give us the news about how the surgery went, he explained everything about the stoma and how it was taken down so well and everything went off without a hitch...and then he shared that Enoch's "pencil" had been "sharpened". It took Joe and I a minute to realize what he was telling us. The kid had been circumsized. HA! Today he referred to children with larger than normal bumholes as "a man hole with no lid". Just so random and interesting.

All joking aside, the visit went well. We have started potty training Enoch again this week and so far we've racked up a few accidents. It is difficult getting him back into the swing of things but since we almost had him completely trained before Travis was born, I know he can do it. Dr. Karrer said he may take a little longer than normal for a boy his age because of his issues but he believes by the time he's kindergarten age he will have full control. He said that was the worst case senario too...so he may just get it controlled before then.

We're due to see Dr. Karrer again in September.
